Modern body culture talks about aerobic and anaerobic training. During aerobic training your inner system is able to provide your muscles with adequate amount of oxygen, so at the end of the training there is no deficit. These are mainly fat burning, long-lasting, low and medium intensity exercise, for example, aerobics, walking, running, swimming, cycling, or ball sports. During anaerobic training the system burns the sugar in your muscles, so oxygen is depleted. These are exercises that require a big effort, for example, weight lifting or bodybuilding.
