I get up every day at the same time, quite early in the morning, depending on the season, earlier in the summer and later in the winter. It also varies depending when I go to sleep.
Before going to bed I always set my alarm to go off after exactly 6 or 7.5 hours of sleep. You can find the explanation of all this in the chapter titled Sleeping.
Many people like doing nothing and sleeping a lot at the weekend.
But Nature doesn't know the concept of the weekend: if I sleep longer, I generally don't do it because it's the weekend, but because I'm more tired.
After waking up I tense my muscles a bit: this is not stretching yet, just a little tensing so that my muscles wake up.
I measure my pulse in the morning and jot it down once a week. If my morning pulse is 5-10 numbers bigger than my average, my muscles are over-trained. Then I will rest for two whole days - I don't even go jogging or lift any weights.
As soon as I get out of bed, I drink a glass of water immediately.
After drinking water, I will lie on the floor. I sit down on the carpet, then slowly vertebrae by vertebrae I lie down on my back, with my hands up; I stretch my body as much as I can! I stay like this motionless for a few seconds! From any position that you were sleeping in, you can put your vertebrae in the right place and the flow of energy starts well right away.
Warm-ups can come after this: from lying on my back, I trun right and left, I sit up, I bend forward on my thighs, I go onto my hands and knees, I move all my parts of the body slowly, with light and short stretching movements! Imitate animals that stretch cheerfully to wake up their muscles and nerves!
After this light warm-up in the FitFive way, I carry out the morning breathing exercises: 5 complete lung breathing exercises. In the meantime, I let my thoughts come and go, I think of the day ahead so that everything will happen the way I have planned it the night before.
I've never spent time worrying over problems in my life and I recommend to those who are trying to stop it to prevent having negative thoughts in the morning firstly. It is silly to poison the day in advance when anything can happen.
So this is my morning health ceremony, it takes only 5 minutes!
