Breathing Observation exercise

Counting together with your child, inhale about 25 times. Time the length of both inhalation and exhalation. On average, exhalation lasts twice as long as the inhalation.

It is very important for children to be able to compare. Show them the different parts of the breathing apparatus. Sit on the carpet and tell them, "Place your ear on my back and listen to my breathing. Now I will listen to your breathing as well."

Lie on your back and have the child sit next to you.

" Now I will show you how to use your total lung, so pay attention!"

Stomach breathing: “Place your hands on my stomach. Can you feel how it rises during inhalation and how it sinks during exhalation?”

Rib breathing: “Place your hands on my ribs. Can you feel the lungs and ribcage expand during inhalation and retract during exhalation?”

Shoulder breathing: “Place your hands on my shoulders. Do you feel them rise during inhalation and sink during exhalation?"

Do this exercise a few times and switch roles.
